Commuters Change Daytime Population On Oahu

How many people on Oahu commute in and out of their neighborhood daily? The U.S. Census bureau find out about 112,000 your neighbors go into urban Hono­lulu! The report Commuting in the United States: 2009 issued on September 2011 says average commute times in Oahu, Hawaii was in between 25.0 to 29.9 minutes.

Especially 7 areas in Oahu-Hono­lulu, Ko Olina, Laie, Hale­iwa and three military bases-receive an influx of workers in their business hours from other communities like East Hono­lulu, Pearl City, Ewa Gentry, Mili­lani town, Maka­kilo, Wai­pahu, Kai­lua, Royal Kunia and Kane­ohe.

On a percentage basis, Ko Olina receives the biggest increase in daytime population.  The biggest percentage of residents who leave where they live was 50.9 percent for Windward Oahu’s Ahuimanu area. And the lowest percentage of residents who work where they live was 2.5 percent for Wai­kele according to Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.
