Lucky we live in Hawaii! We always have sunny days all year around without drought, the perfect place to start planting vegetables, flowers, and more! Are you brand new to gardening? Don’t worry! Are you a passionate gardener already? That sounds awesome! Gardening can be very challenging, but very fun and rewarding as well. You can grow your own food without chemical which is good for our health and the soil as well. Also, this is a big step toward your healthy/ sustainable lifestyle. Here we have gardening tips for you.

1. After boil vegetables, pasta, or eggs, don’t pour the water down the drain. Use this to fertilize your plants. Don’t forget to cool it down first before use.

2. Don’t toss egg shells in the trash. Grind eggshells and sprinkle in your garden. It’ll be a great calcium boost! In addition,

3. Over watering is worse than under watering.

4. See how much room you have for the plants you want to grow. Some plants get very large and they can become stressed if they don’t have enough space. Make efficient use of space. Also, think about the amount of sunlight your plants can receive. You don’t want tall plants shade shorter ones.

5. If you plant the same vegetables (or related vegetables) in the same spot every year, do a crop rotation to avoid diseases.

6. Flowers make your garden not only look beautiful, but attract beneficial bugs!

7. Two tablespoons of baking soda and 1 cup of water can be a natural pesticide. Spray this to your plant to get rid of fungus.

8. Trimming make your plant increase air circulation!

9. When you plant a tree, think how big the tree can grow. If you have a small yard, large trees can be dangerous to your home as they grow. Roots can ruin pipelines, pavement and foundation.

10. Use milk as fertilizer! It helps plants grow and protect them from viruses and powdery mildew.
