How to Measure for Bathroom Faucets
Needing to replace your bathroom faucets? Before selecting your new faucets, here are some measurements you will need to choose the right size faucet for your sink.
Bathroom faucets come in two different sizes: 8-inch or 4-inch centers. All bathroom sinks will have three holes along the top of the sink, unless you are dealing with a vessel bowl sink (A bowl-like container that mounts on top of a bathroom counter and has a central plumbed drain.), in which case you will have only one hole. The holes to the far left and far right are for the cold and hot water, and the center hole is for the drain’s pull-up lever.
1. Measure from the center of the far left hole to the center of the far right hole. This measurement will tell you if you have a 4-inch or an 8-inch center.
2. Measure in inches from the wall behind your sink to the lip of the bowl. This measurement will let you know if the width of your new faucet will fit on your bathroom sink. This measurement is important if the back ledge of your sink is very thin or lacking a back splash.
3. Measure the distance from your sink to the medicine cabinet or any other object above it. Make sure the faucet is not as high as that in inches. This measurement is important if the faucet has to fit within a low area. If this space is smaller than the height of the faucet you intend on purchasing, then you will not be able to properly install the faucet.
