An Ingredient for Happiness

An Ingredient for Happiness

Ever wonder why some people seem to move through life effortlessly and hardly miss a beat? Could it be that they were just born to do what they do? Sure, there is probably an element of natural ability which accounts for their success. But there is something much richer that fuels their tank. It is an ingredient that warms even the coldest of hearts. It is the effect of love.

This is not a love that is a passing emotion. It is a determined and steady kind of love- beyond self. It does not guarantee that everything is going to work out as planned, but it will ensure our happiness in the end.

How can we add more love into what we do?

 Find the good in our work. It is difficult to have love in what we do if we don’t realize the positive impact it has in the lives of others. Even if you have to ask people how they’ve been affected by your work, seek out the result. When we understand how we’re being a blessing to others, we ourselves will be blessed.

 Change our heart before we change our routine. Sometimes we get bored with the same kind of work and it becomes a chore rather than a joy. What used to be fun and exciting has somehow become a drag. One possible reason is that maybe we’ve forgotten people along the way. If it wasn’t for the people we work with or serve, our whole job would be pointless. Refocus back on relationships and our heart will be renewed.

 Exceed expectations. This is not just good sales advice; this is a genuine principal of happiness. When we seek to go above and beyond ordinary expectations, it affects something within us. No doubt the recipient of this kind of service will be happy, but we will also be satisfied knowing that we threw our heart over the line.

 Do it anyway. We’re not always going to do what we want to. We might have an unfortunate set of circumstances to overcome. In order to continue moving forward we’ll have to do it out of commitment (aka. love). Do it anyway and love will carry us through.
