On April 6th 2016, the state supreme court approved the Koa Ridge master-planned community development by Castle & Cooke Hawaii. The plan calls for an initial phase of 3,500 homes with community parks and recreational areas along with schools, a medical center and a hotel.
Koa Ridge is located in Central Oahu and surrounded by the existing communities of Mililani, Pearl City, Waikele and Waipahu. Developer Castle & Cooke said it anticipates starting construction in 2017 and delivering the first homes in the last quarter of 2018.
Castle & Cooke Hawaii initially received the approval by the state Land Use Commission back in 2012 to convert 768 acres from agricultural use to urban use for this development. A second phase of 1,500 homes are waiting for the approval.
