Quick Cleaning Tips

• To quickly clean your food processor or blender, fill it half full with water, add a couple drops of liquid dishwashing detergent then cover and run for a few seconds. Wash with a kitchen brush, rinse and let dry.
• To thoroughly clean your microwave, mix two tablespoons of lemon juice with a cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat this in your microwave and allow it to boil for approximately five minutes. Wipe out your microwave with a kitchen scrubber.
• Clear your electric can opener blades by washing them with a kitchen scrubber and white vinegar.
• To remove burnt-on grease marks from chrome burner rings, soak them in ammonia overnight, then use a kitchen scrubber in the morning.
• Fill a dish sponge/soap dispenser with white household vinegar and use it to wipe down the walls and shelves inside your refrigerator.
• Eliminate water spots from a stainless steel sink by wiping with a cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol.
• Clean smudges and fingerprints on the outside of the dishwasher with a damp cloth dipped in baking soda.
• Remove baked-on particles from cast-iron skillets with a scrub brush. Avoid using metal scouring pads as those will scratch the surface.
• To clean an enamel pan that is badly burnt, sprinkle it with two tablespoons lemon juice and one tablespoon salt. Let this stand for one hour and then gently rub the pan with a scrubber.
• Clean and deodorize the inside of a refrigerator with a mixture of three tablespoons baking soda and one quart warm water. Wipe dry with a cloth.
• To remove rust stains on whites, dampen the stain with lemon juice, then rub salt into the spot with a scrub brush. Set in the sun to dry and then wash as usual.
• Got a fresh grease stain on your upholstery? Try sprinkling it with talcum powder; rub well and leave until the grease is absorbed. Brush off the powder/grease with a scrub brush and wipe with a damp cloth.
• For polish build-up, mix 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup water. Rub furniture with a soft cloth that has been moistened with the solution. Dry immediately with a clean cloth.
• To prevent dust from settling on glass-topped tables, TV screens or stereo lids, mix a little fabric softener with warm water. Wipe mixture on the surface and then rub dry with a soft cloth.
• Dust papered walls by tying a clean dust cloth over a broom head, and lightly brush the walls from top to bottom.
• Remove crayon from walls by covering the mark with toothpaste. Let it set for 30 minutes then wipe clean with a cloth.
• To clean a window screen, lay it flat on a piece of cloth or old carpet outside. Wash it using a soft-bristled brush and a mild detergent. Rinse with a hose and let it dry in the sun.
